Sweet Georgia Brown is a familiar Fats Waller tune that brings to mind the antics of the Harlem Globetrotters. In modern performances of this tune, the typical rhythm guitarist is inclined to rasp away 4- and 5-note chords, maybe in the "hot club"style of Joseph Reinhardt. However, in this recording, Freddie Green along with fellow Basie veterans Walter Page and Jo Jones, demonstrates how to apply a "one-note"minimalist rhythm guitar approach, while preserving the buoyant swing traditionally associated with this song.
